Tratto is a custom-made textile produced by Rubelli for Molteni&C.,in the occasion of “A new italian textile story” organized by Elle Decor Italia.
Elle Decor selected 4 designers and asked them to interpret the famous chair D.270.2, designed by architect Gio Ponti in the 70’s and currently produced by Molteni&C.
Sara designed a textile inspired by the beautiful letters Gio Ponti used to write to his friends and colleagues.
This letters were much more than just some text on a piece of paper, they were elegant drawings demonstrating Ponti’s thoughts and soul, an expression of his mind, usually hand-drawn with large head markers.
This chair, D.270.2, was also designed because of a letter, a letter that Gio Ponti received from a lady called Gabriella, wife of Ermes Ponti from the Walter Ponti, a furniture company based in Mantova.
Through this letter she asked Gio Ponti to work on their first design collection.
The project of the textile started from here, from the beauty of this letters which represented “a thought as a mark, a mark as a thought”…for the maestro.
The new chairs will be on display at the Molteni&C. showroom in Milan, corso Europa 2, until the 15th of March 2015.
