Alla Goccia
From the paradox: “The fun side of annoyance”
Bottoms up!’ is an expression said at toasts to encourage friends to finish their drink in one gulp. This idea has been implemented quite literally in Alla Goccia, a set of shot glasses with an upside-down design. Because of their shape, the glasses can only be set down when they are completely empty. Each glass has a different metal coaster, to help identify the glass and to collect the last drops of remaining alcohol.
The experience of drinking rituals often has two sides. We undertake these rituals for fun and to bring people closer together. However, they can also be bit annoying, when we feel the pressure to drink but cannot or don’t want to keep up with the rest. This is what gives the experience an edge and keeps it exciting, especially because it usually becomes a competition you can not loose
Having a drink with the Alla Goccia glasses is a bit laborious: the glasses have to be poured one by one and held by the drinker until everyone glass is filled up.
This makes the ritual of drinking shots more socially involved; everyone observes the drinks being poured, and no one sets them down until they are finished.
